We take a deep dive into why the ZF S6-53 6-speed gearbox is the most straightforward choice and how we have addressed the "necessary evil" of retrofitting 4.2L driveline components into our 4.0L project car. A major hurdle in this conversion is the CAN bus system. Unlike manufacturers like BMW, Jaguar never programmed a manual AJV8 ECU. We discuss the two main solutions: aftermarket ECU integration (like PV Engineering’s MaxxECU setup) or the path we are taking—the Glenn Nelson MCM emulator, which allows the car to remain "happy" while thinking it's still an automatic.
