Gitanjali written by Rabindranath Tagore has had many translations in Malayalam. These translations include those by Mahakavi G. Sankara Kurup, Ettumanoor Somadasan, N. K. Desam (N. Kuttikrishna Pillai), Nitya Chaitanya Yati, K. Jayakumar, and KV Sajay. Unlike these translators, N. P. Chandrasekharan is a journalist, media critic and journalism teacher. He is one of the first generation television journalists in Kerala. Being someone who closely observes society his translation of Tagore is also about trying to understand the socio-political condition of Bengal and that of India of the period. Here Mr. N. P.
