Inclusione scolastica degli alunni e delle alunne con disabilità: luci e ombre

In the 2020/2021 school year, more than 300,000 students with disabilities attended Italian schools (3.6% of enrollment), approximately 4,000 more than the previous year (+2%). In its latest report, "The School Inclusion of Students with Disabilities," which presents the results of a survey conducted between April and June 2021, Istat emphasizes how the continuation of distance learning (DAD), necessitated by the pandemic, has made the process of school inclusion more complex. However, compared to the previous year, there has been a significant increase in participation among students with disabilities, thanks in part to more appropriate school organization. However, training in inclusive methodologies, which are necessary for designing effective teaching programs that engage all students in the class without exclusion, remains poorly developed. FISH – the Italian Federation for the Overcoming of Handicap – recently shared the results of a survey launched in the second half of November 2021 to understand how the school year began for students with disabilities, following the revocation of Interministerial Decree 182 and the PEI models. These results, while not intended to be statistically significant, offer interesting insights into how much has been done (or not) to develop the PEI and the effective involvement of families and students with disabilities. We will use the data from the ISTAT report and the FISH survey to analyze the situation of school inclusion, highlighting its strengths as well as critical issues that remain to be resolved, together with: Dario Ianes, full professor of Pedagogy and Inclusion Teaching at the University of Bolzano, Degree Course in Primary Education Sciences. He is the co-founder of the Centro Studi Erickson in Trento, for which he edits several series. He is the author of various articles and books and the editor of the magazine "DIDA." Flavio Fogarolo, a trainer, focuses on inclusive education. For several years, he was the contact for disability and learning disabilities at the UST in Vicenza. For Edizioni Centro Studi Erickson, he has collaborated, in addition to authoring various publications, on the design of educational games and compensatory materials.
