John Etheridge discusses how a recommendation from fellow guitarist Allan Holdsworth led to his being recruited as the latter's replacement in Soft Machine in 1975 - a position he still proudly holds some 44 years later. He recalls how Karl Jenkins and John Marshall came to check him out at a gig, but - for reasons John explains - weren't terribly impressed with his playing that night...
