How to Improve Hip Internal Rotation With Hip Impingement (FAI) & Why Band Distractions Don't Work
Improving Hip IR can be tricky with Hip Impingement but it can be done. It's all about working around your bony limitations and training in angles that don't exacerbate the pain. To truly improve hip internal rotation, you need adequate leverage to maximally lengthen the hip rotator muscles in different levels of hip flexion. This is why passive modalities such as band distractions don't work long term. 1) they may aggravate your current symptoms because your mobilizing at your bony limits. 2) the band isn't really providing increased traction to the joint or stretching out the capsule anymore than if there was no band 3) strength isn't being created in end range I much prefer to use the band for RESISTANCE instead of a distraction.
