Honeybee Canyon, Old Pueblo MTB Group Ride, 17 Riders. Couple Sandy CRASHES. Nealbee Trail Monster.

Group Ride with Old Pueblo MTB on Sat. 9/12 We did approx. 20 miles riding out at Honeybee Canyon near Oro Valley. We met up at the Big Wash Trailhead by 6am and was pedaling up the trail a very short time later. (The Big Wash Trailhead is kind of easy to miss, gotta look for it real good, only a small sign, plus you drive down a gravel road for about a 1/4 mile) There are a lot of sandy sections on the trails, keeping that front tire straight and speed is key. We did have a couple not so bad sandy crashes in the group and one gnarly crash in the rocks and that rider really messed up his shoulder and had to go get checked out. Every rider knows the risks in Mountain Biking and sometimes when we push ourselves a little we may get hurt. That being said these group ride are really safe and it's actually the more experienced riders who usually get hurt because they are doing the more high risk features that are not required but often are too fun to pass up...and sometimes those things just lead to unfortunate wrecks. Lots of safety gear is high encouraged, Helmet, gloves, knee and elbow pads...and even bubble wrap if you gotta it. Grippy shoes are a plus as well, 5 10's or a skater type shoe like Vans are some of the best for Mountain Biking, helps keep the feet on the pedals...or you can go the crazy "clipped in" route as well ha ha (although those are really great for the climbs.) A great Thank You to Old Pueblo MTB for doing these group rides every weekend, Go checkout their Facebook page for listing of up coming group rides. Any skill level rider and any type of mountain bike is welcome, no rider gets left behind. See you on the next Adventure!
