What do Christmas carols sound like when they are reinterpreted again and again over the centuries – from medieval chorales to modern pop songs? And what do they reveal about the time in which they originated? The program "Songs for Advent" invites you on an Advent musical journey of discovery. In a cozy half-timbered warehouse in Hamburg's Harburg inland port, old chorales meet jazzy harmonies and contemporary pop elements. Host Yared Dibaba guides you through the evening of music with a large band and vocal soloists – carried along by an audience that sings along with gusto. This creates a wonderful atmosphere as everyone sings familiar and newly discovered Advent and Christmas carols, arranged by Nathanael Kläs. Old melodies and new sounds enter into a creative dialogue. Between music and stories, the secrets of great Christmas hits are revealed and childhood memories are shared. An evening for singing along, listening, and reflecting.
