Today, if a book doesn't flow, doesn't click quickly, the tendency is simple: put it down. It seems reasonable. It even seems healthy. But this idea carries something deeper. What if the problem isn't the book? For a long time, difficult reading was treated as a symbol of elitism. And rightly so, this alienated many people. But the opposite movement created another distortion: that every text should adapt to the reader. But not every text works that way. There are books that don't get easier with persistence. They only start to make sense when you change the way you read. In this video, I explore this tension using examples such as Grande Sertão: Veredas, Pão Seco, Notes from Underground, and Heart of Darkness. Works that don't allow for automatic reading and demand something that is increasingly rare: sustained attention. The question isn't whether or not you like difficult books. It's about understanding what happens to your reading when it no longer needs to adjust to anything.
