Social media abounds with so much content of numerous women who have lost their edges due to tight hairstyles. It's truly heartbreaking to see them struggling to restore their hairlines. Today’s video is about raising awareness about the dangers of tight hairstyles! Many people underestimate the impact that tension can have on their hairlines over time. Traction alopecia and frontal fibrosing alopecia can lead to serious, often irreversible damage to your hair follicles, which is crushing to anyone who loves her hair. Now, I'm not saying you should never get some of these hairstyles done, but if you have fine hair, understand you're at a higher risk of losing your edges. So, be cautious and make sure to give your hair a break in between styles or better yet, avoid these styles all together. There needs to be a balance between style and health. Taking breaks between tight styles and opting for looser alternatives can really make a world of a difference. It’s so important for everyone to realize that every hairstyle doesn’t need to be snatched. Find that balance and prioritizing health over aesthetics. There are plenty of beautiful hairstyles that don’t involve pulling at the hairline—for example braids with less tension, buns that aren’t too tight, glue-less wigs that can be removed, or even better embracing natural styles. Your edges deserve care and respect, just like the rest of your hair! But first, let’s start with some definitions. Alopecia? Alopecia is a general term for hair loss that can affect the entire body or just the scalp. It can be temporary or permanent, and there are many different types of alopecia. Some common types include Traction alopecia? Traction alopecia results from forcefully continuing to pull on the hair roots. It usually occurs with black women. Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia? Frontal fibrosing alopecia is a specific type of hair loss. It destroys the hair follicles, the openings from which the hair grows, causing permanent hair loss. Trichorrhexis Nodosa? Trichorrhexis Nodosa is a common hair shaft defect as a result of physical or chemical trauma to the hair shaft. If you have damaged your edges or have already lost your edges, I can imagine how sad and frustrated you might feel. Know that your edges can grow back. It might not seem like it right now but your edges can grow back. Restoring your edges takes patience and care, and it’s so important to prioritize healthy practices over styling.
