How Support Changed Matilda’s Life

We would love you to meet Matilda, who’s nearly 4. She was identified as deaf at 5 weeks old. Initially, her parents, Charlotte and Christo were in shock and full of fears and worries. They were grieving as they thought nothing would be easy for their little girl. By the time Matilda was 3, they were increasingly worried because she hadn’t learned many words, and they were struggling to communicate with her. “She experienced huge frustration, sensory overload and meltdowns, largely because she was unable to communicate her wants and needs. It was heartbreaking being unable to understand her.” – Charlotte, Matilda’s mum. Watch their video and find out how Matilda’s family received one-to-one support from our advice and guidance officer, Emma. Together, they were able to get Matilda into the right nursery setting, where she could use British Sign Language (BSL). The family were also able to learn some BSL together, after we provided funding to a local group for deaf children and their families. If you can make a kind donation, however small, it will help us to support even more children like Matilda.
