And thank you for tuning into the second episode of our series on hallucinations, dementia and delusions: Why do delusions happen and how should you respond? In our last video, we went over how hallucinations are the result of one of our five senses perceiving something that isn’t there. Usually with regard to sight and sound. A delusion on the other hand is a belief, a false belief, that the person with dementia fully believes is true. It is not that they are lying to you or about you, it is that the cognitive impairment they are facing has them fully convinced their illusion is reality. You cannot convince them otherwise. In this video, we go over four of the most common delusions dementia caregivers face and offer solutions for how to best deal with them. Those delusions are: I am being abused/You are abusing me I don’t know who you are There are bugs everywhere/on me I am being followed/Someone is trying to get me In addition to the solutions presented in this video, we encourage you to think of your own and leave them in the comments below. We grow as a community, so be sure not to keep all those great ideas to yourself. Check us out below for more information and remember that “Together We Can”.
