On February 15, 2026, the next Grosse Fastnachtszug took place in Frankfurt am Main. The history of carnivals dates back to the 13th century, but it was only in the 19th century that it became such a large-scale event as it is today. The carnival season in Germany (the "fifth season") is accompanied by parties, dancing, carnival costumes and performances. The carnival in Frankfurt am Main is the largest in Hesse. The traditional Frankfurt carnival is older and more mischievous than the May carnival and even the Cologne carnival. Pagan traditions persisted here for quite a long time. The ancient Germans drove away evil demons with noise and flaming torches. On the eve of Grosse Fastnachtszug, the "storming of the Town Hall" took place on Römerberg, which I also intend to tell you about in the near future.
