TUBO CENTRAL DE CABEZAS DE HIERRO INVERNAL | SIERRA DE GUADARRAMA-MADRID

Winter ascent of Cabeza de Hierro Mayor (2,381 m) via the central couloir (165 meters long with an average slope of 40-45º). Access is from the Cotos pass (1,830 m) and the PR-M27 trail to the Cerradillas mountain pasture; then traverse the north face to the start of the central couloir. Descent via the PR-M27 from the col between Cabeza de Hierro Mayor and Menor to the Cerradillas mountain pasture and return to the Cotos pass via the same ascent route. IMPORTANT: Ice axe, crampons, and helmet are essential. Due to the slope and length of the ascent, prior experience in snow and ice climbing techniques is recommended, as the condition of the north face can range from climbing hard ice to ascending soft snow steps, depending on the conditions.
