Convection - GCSE Physics

This video introduces the topic of convection. When a fluid (liquid or gas) is heated it expands, becomes less dense and rises up. When a fluid (liquid or gas) cools it condenses, becomes more dense and sinks. This is called convection. Convection causes hot pockets within a fluid to rise and cold pockets to sink. This is why the water at the top of a hot bath is warmer than at the bottom and is the cause of convection currents.
