In today's video, I'll explain what the chi-square test is and what it's used for. The chi-square test of independence is a nonparametric test used to determine whether there is an association, or dependence, between two categorical variables. The test's hypothesis system is as follows: H0 (null hypothesis): Variable 1 is independent of Variable 2 H1 (alternative hypothesis): Variable 1 is not independent of Variable 2 The value resulting from the chi-square calculation is a variable with a chi-square distribution with (r-1) * (c-1) degrees of freedom, where r and c are the number of rows and columns in the contingency table, respectively, that is, the number of modalities of the first variable and the number of modalities of the second variable. As an alternative to comparing the test and the critical value, you can also compare the p-value and the alpha significance level.
