Uncoiling Consciousness: Kundalini in Kashmir Shaivism- TC with Sri George Barselaar - EP 3
Śrī Gurubhyo Namaḥ This episode is a section of a larger conversation on the teachings of Swami Lakshmanjoo on Kashmir Shaivism which is being released in the Tantranidhi series. We will explore the concept of Kundalini as understood in Kashmir Shaivism and how it was experienced by a siddha like Swami Lakshmanjoo. In this episode of Tantrādhva conversations we interview Shri George Barselaar who is a pandit in the Kashmir Shaiva Sampradaya and one of Swami Lakshmanjoo's closest students. Although his spiritual journey began 1972 with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and the Yogic tradition, his proper introduction to the Kashmiri Shaiva tradition began in 1982 when he moved to Srinagar to study Yoga and Shaivism under Swami Lakshmanjoo. He remained Swamiji's close student until the his Mahasamadhi in 1991. During this period, he collaborated with Sri John and Denise Hughes to compile over a thousand hours of Swamiji's recorded lectures and in 1988 was entrusted with transliterating ancient Sanskrit verses and editing English translations — a monumental task he completed over the next twenty years. After Swamiji’s Mahasamadhi, George frequently returned to India to master the ritual performances, hymns, and mantras unique to Trika Shaivism and received formal initiation into the Brahmin tradition (yāgnopavītam), qualifying him to perform Vedic and Shaiva ceremonies. In 2000, he relocated to the United States to co-edit more than a dozen publications of Swamiji’s teachings with John Hughes under the Lakshmanjoo Academy (USA). Today, George divides his time between the USA and Swami Lakshmanjoo’s ashrams in Delhi, Jammu, and Kashmir—working from the Ishwar Ashram Trust in Delhi when travel to Kashmir is restricted—and continues to make these profound teachings accessible through online interviews, webinars, and seminars in partnership with the Universal Shaiva Fellowship, Lakshmanjoo Academy (USA), and Ishwar Ashram Trust (India).
