We visited Hitoyoshi and Kuma, which are currently recovering from the 2020 flood disaster. We enjoyed a factory tour and seven-variety tasting at Kuma Shochu brewery Sengetsu Shuzo, and heard stories from the proprietress of the newly renovated, historic Nabeya Inn. Our suite room featured an open-air bath, allowing us to enjoy a luxurious time relaxing and gazing at the Kuma River right in front of us. For dinner, we savored gourmet food from Hitoyoshi and Kumamoto. On the second day, we went river rafting on the Kuma River at HASSENBA, and for lunch we had Kyushu pancakes made with Kyushu wheat and original local ohagi (rice balls). After dinner, we visited the National Treasure Aoi Aso Shrine and strolled around the ruins of Hitoyoshi Castle. Finally, we enjoyed an exciting exploration inside the limestone cave at Kyusendo Cave in Kuma Village! We hope you'll visit Hitoyoshi and Kuma!
