Village Laxmi Unifies for Lakshmi

BANGALORE: It is a story of 13-year-old Lakshmi from Variyapuram village in Kerala as the entire village community extended their support to organize Laxmi to contribute for the treatment of Lakshmi. The entire exercise started from March this year in which she was admitted for persisted fever of unknown fever of unknown origin. Dr Goutham Kumar and team conducted a detailed multidisciplinary evaluation and found that liver transplantation was her only hope to survival. The ordeal of shuttling between hospital to hospital continued for her parents as it was the concern of Laxmi for Lakshmi until the community-initiated effort from the village to support the girl child to get back a new lease of life after her battle began when she was just an infant. Over the years, childhood for Lakshmi was not about school, play or carefree days as she had to undergo repeated hospitalization for fear of gastrointestinal bleeding caused by portal hypertension.
