Launch of the RCSI/COSECSA/Irish Aid Mobile Surgical Skills Unit
In July 2014, a Mobile Surgical Skills Unit set sail from RCSI in Dublin to Tanzania, equipped with surgical training technology such as Virtual Reality simulators, to train surgical trainees in hospitals across five of the ten COSECSA countries, namely: Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. The unit, which can accommodate ten surgical trainees at one time and will deliver surgical training to world-class standards, was launched by then Minister of State for Trade and Development, Mr Joe Costello. This initiative is part of a well-established partnership between RCSI, Irish Aid and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA).
