FIX or REPLACE? How to Repair a Starter - Worth it or Not?

Should you know how to repair a starter? Several decades ago, many shops would repair and/or rebuild starters. As more manufacturing moved off-shore, starters weren't so expensive, so they became more of a throw-away and replace item. Now, it seems that most starters seem to land in the $300 range, so maybe it's time to start rebuilding or repairing starters again.
