[Why I Chose Note] Banana Yoshimoto has nearly 70,000 followers on Note, and her widely read novel "Dokudami-chan and the Wonderful Flowers" is a favorite among readers. Among the many platforms available, why did she choose Note? What does she want to communicate through her novels, essays, and email newsletter? We'll share the inside story with you. (Interviewed January 2024) Banana Yoshimoto Born in Tokyo in 1964. Graduated from the Department of Literature, College of Art, Nihon University. She made her debut in 1987 with her novel "Kitchen," which won the 6th Kaien New Writer's Prize. In 1988, he won the 16th Izumi Kyoka Literary Prize for "Moonlight Shadow," the 39th Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists for "Kitchen" and "Utakata/Sanctuary" in 1989, the 2nd Yamamoto Shugoro Prize for "TUGUMI" in the same year, the 5th Murasaki Shikibu Literary Prize in 1995 for "Amrita," the 10th Prix de la Dumago Literature (selected by Anno Mitsumasa) in 2000 for "Furin to Nanbei" (Adultery and South America), and the 58th Tanizaki Junichiro Prize in 2022 for "Mitten to Punishment." His works have been translated and published in over 30 countries, and in Italy he has won the Scanno Prize in 1993, the Fendissime Literary Prize (Under 35) in 1996, the Maschera d'Argento Prize in 1999, and the Capri Prize in 2011.
