Narcissistic Behavior – The Cognitive Traits When we talk about the cognitive traits of narcissists, we're referring to their way of thinking. Narcissists exhibit distorted thought patterns and live in their own created, inaccurate reality. Because of their clinging to their own created reality, narcissists simply assume that their way of thinking is the only correct one and that everyone else's is wrong. They cling desperately to their ideas with little to no willingness to admit that their perspective might be wrong. Understanding these cognitive traits is important because narcissists' thought patterns determine their behavior. In other words, understanding their thought processes provides insight into their behavior. Within the cognitive cluster, there are five patterns we can attribute to a narcissist: 1. First, we are paranoid 2. Followed by hypersensitivity 3. Subsequently, we have a lack of insight 4. Subsequently, a skewed sense of justice 5.
