C64 Ultimate: Erst gucken, dann entscheiden - Der Entscheidungs-Talk

The day of reckoning has arrived! In part 3 of our Ultimate series, Jürgen "Weasel" Brunner brings two editions to the studio – the Starlight AND the Founders Edition. This certainly doesn't make Christian's dilemma any easier... And he also holds up an original onboard case and the C64 II (also known as the Original and officially called the C64 C) for the camera... This time, we also tackle some big technical questions: What exactly is an FPGA, and why is it more than just a fancy emulator? What's the deal with the different SID chips – and why does the Ultimate theoretically have space for up to eight of them? We also cover network speed, save states, USB mouse support, delivery times, and whether the Ultimate is currently reigniting the C64 scene. Spoiler alert: Yes. Monkey Island for the C64 is in development. In the end, Christian makes a decision – but we won't reveal here whether it's the Starlight or the Founders Edition. 😄 🎙️ Guest: Jürgen "Weasel" Brunner ▶️ Part 1 & Part 2 can be found on our channel 📢 Live Q&A with Jürgen coming soon – feel free to ask your questions in the comments! 00:00:00 Intro – Today's the day: Which Ultimate is Christian buying? 00:03:50 FPGA explained: What is it – and why is it more than just an emulator? 00:08:00 VICE vs. Ultimate: Does an emulator sound and feel like a real C64? 00:11:38 Demoscene live: Crack intros from the 80s and the infamous VSki bug 00:13:00 Breadbox vs. C64-II: Case, keyboard, and Jürgen's original hardware 00:29:49 Network, LAN & WLAN: How fast is the connection on the Ultimate really? 00:34:00 SID Chips: 6581 vs. 8580 – and why the Ultimate supports up to 8 of them 00:43:16 The unbeatable feature: Why Jürgen never wants to be without the Ultimate again 01:03:57 The final verdict: Christian's decision – Basic, Starlight, or Founders?
