Bridge River Gold Rush, Hydraulic Mining - Water Monitors Used For Mining High Ledges Of Gold

The Bridge River is full of gold and is a tributary of the Fraser River. Gold was discovered on the bridge river during the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush of 1858. The region is very remote, with the Lillooet Pioneer road going through the area. This road is also known as Highway 40 in British Columbia. We explore the region and look at the history of the area. The Bridge River Gold Rush was a smaller and lesser known gold rush than others in British Columbia. It has many creeks which have shown to be great for gold. Due to its remoteness, the region does not see much activity. Steep mountains and glaciers surround the valleys, making travel very difficult. The bridge river country had placer gold mining operations all throughout the valley. Miners panned and sluiced the river for coarse gold nuggets tucked away in crevices of the river. There were also hydraulic mining operations, which can some remnants can be seen at Horseshoe Bend. Gold can be found in many places on the bridge river.
