Climate Change: what the North can do for the tropics | Minik Rosing | TEDxCannes

Climate change is a fact of life experienced by everyone in Minik Rosing’s native Greenland. His most recent research has identified a new Arctic resource produced by the melting glaciers – a fine rock flour that can re-fertilize poor tropical soils, increase crop yield and sustain economic development, while at the same time sequester CO2 and mitigate climate change. Finally, some good news from the North. Minik Rosing is professor of geology at University of Copenhagen. He made an incredible discovery in Greenland: Life on Earth is hundreds of millions of years older than previously believed. Astonishingly, 3.7 billion years ago life could already perform photosynthesis. This strategy enabled life to take control of Earth’s environments and, ultimately, led to the formation of Earth’s continents. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
