Alberto Burri 1960 MASTER
In 1960, the first documentary on the great artist Alberto Burri was filmed, written by Giovanni Carandente, screenwriter, and commentator. The film is a testimony of the highest historical value, showing the public for the first time Burri working live on his Combustioni. As a thank you, the artist gave Carandente a volume of Emilio Villa's poetry, "17 Variations on Themes Proposed for a Pure Phonetic Ideology," a rare copy of which (with autographed interventions and a dedication from Burri himself to Carandente, "the director") is now in the collection of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Palazzo Collicola. A curious fact: in Burri's studio, the film shows a black hanging mobile by Alexander Calder (present in the collection of the GAM in Spoleto with nine works), which Burri himself had exchanged for one of his own works.
