Social media bombards us with high-end, expensive crap that most of us shouldn't be buying anyway. I get it. I grew up poor, working all summer just to buy clothes at the local thrift store. But I took care of those clothes, ironed them, coordinated them, and ended up voted as "Best Dressed" my senior year. You don't need a ton of money to look sharp, but you do need to stop doing things that make you look broke. It is all about discipline and respect for yourself. Even if you are financially strapped right now, you can choose to eat better, exercise, launder your clothes properly, and present yourself like a king. Take control of your image, because you deserve every opportunity out there! If you want to stop sending the wrong message to the world, you need to eliminate these style, grooming, and behavioral mistakes immediately with this  "Broke or Low-Status" Checklist:  Grooming & Hygiene Dirty, long fingernails: It honestly looks gross and screams low class. Excessive facial piercings or tattoos: I love tattoos, but overdoing it drastically lowers how people perceive your status. Bad, discolored, or missing teeth: You might not have money for braces, but teeth whitening is cheap and instantly makes you look healthier, younger, and more successful. Bad acne or oily skin: Clear skin shows basic hygiene and that you take pride in yourself. Shitty food makes your skin worse, so take care of what you put in your body. Bad body odor or overspraying cologne: Both scream low status. Bad hair choices: Stop trying to hide a receding hairline with a clueless combover or a cheap toupee. Either buzz it, fix it, or find a style that works. Also, lose the rock-hard, shiny "helmet hair." Style & Clothing Disasters Blinged-out clothing: Avoid t-shirts or jeans with crazy, loud designs (think vintage Ed Hardy or True Religion). Baggy, long shorts or bathing suits: They completely swallow your silhouette and look cheap. Dirty, scuffed, or worn-out shoes: The second I meet someone, I look down at their feet. If your shoes are filthy and your laces are nasty, it looks like you don't care. Untailored suits: Extra fabric puddling around your ankles or sleeves that are too long make you look sloppy and broke. Wrinkled or stained clothes: Specifically, white dress shirts with nasty ring-around-the-collar or worn-out collar stays. Novelty style items: Graphic t-shirts, loud clothing, funny ties, and funny socks are a waste of money and look immature. Always wearing a baseball hat: Especially if it's a dirty, scummy, worn-out hat. Pajama pants or baggy sweatpants in public: Leaving the house for Starbucks or the gym looking like you rolled out of bed tells the world you have no other options. Crocs: Just don't do it. Wife-beater tank tops or sagging pants: Instantly projects a low-class image when worn out in public. Outdated denim: Super distressed, faded, or skinny jeans are completely out of style. Lifestyle & Accessories A dirty car: I don't care if you drive a total crap car or a luxury vehicle; if it's filled with trash, covered in dirt, packed with stuffed animals in the window, or plastered with bumper stickers, it looks trashy. A cracked phone screen or obnoxious case: It tells the world you can't afford to fix your daily essentials. Packed, overstuffed pockets: Stop carrying a mountain of crap. Switch to a minimal wallet and clean up your silhouette. Cheap jewelry: Fake, blinged-out watches, tons of fake bracelets, or too many chains look incredibly low-class. Being out of shape: People associate being overweight or sloppy with a lack of discipline and poor choices.
