The Komsomolskaya Pravda Mine The Komsomolskaya Pravda Mine (No. 1 Sokolovskaya-Vostochnaya) is a coal mining enterprise in the village of Novaya Sokolovka (Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov Oblast, Russian Federation). It was part of Rostovugol Company LLC. It closed in 2004 following an accident at the Zapadnaya-Kapitalnaya Mine. The Sokolovskaya-Vostochnaya Mine No. 1 was commissioned in August 1956 with a design capacity of 600,000 tons per year. O. D. Batin was the mine's director. In 1968, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Komsomol, it was named after the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper (previously, this name belonged to a mine belonging to the Shakhtanthracite trust, which closed in 1967). Over the years, the mine was headed by S.A. Goncharov, A.V. Matveyev, A.F. Ponomarenko, S.A. Mikhalev, V.P. Fialkin. As of 2002, the mine's installed capacity was 400,000 tons. As of 1963, the mine field was opened using two vertical, centrally-double shafts 321 meters deep and permanent horizontal crosscuts at levels 240 and 320 meters. A 4.5-meter-diameter skip shaft is used for coal hoisting. Both shafts are reinforced with concrete. A 6-meter-diameter cage shaft is used for lowering and hoisting personnel, equipment, and materials, as well as for rock hoisting. The mine field's bottom section utilizes a stage-by-stage method, while the downhill section utilizes a panel-by-stage method. Within the bottom section, there is a single 300-meter-high floor divided into two subfloors. The working fields extend 200-300 meters. Two longwalls are used at each seam in the mine's brake sloping area. The mine uses a combined mining system. The lower sublevel longwall is mined using a continuous system, while the upper sublevel longwall, located approximately 300 meters to the rear, is mined with coal delivered to the forward section brake sloping area. The section brake sloping areas are driven ahead of the lower sublevel longwall, within the coal mass. The ventilation drift of the lower longwall serves as the transport drift for the upper longwall. The roof control method is complete caving. OKU metal pipe walls are used as support. Coal is extracted from the longwalls using KMP-3 cutting machines and drilling and blasting operations. Coal boreholes are drilled using EBR-19D hand-held electric drills. Attempts to use LGD-1 coal cutter-loaders were unsuccessful due to the high viscosity and hardness of the anthracite coal, as well as the presence of hard rock layers in the seam. Coal is transported through the longwall using KSK-30 conveyors. Using these conveyors instead of STR-30 conveyors has increased longwall productivity by 15°/0. Within the mine field, the anthracite seam I3B (Stepanovsky Verkhny) was mined, 1.2-1.3 m thick, with a dip angle of 8-12°. The mine field is accessed by five vertical shafts: the main shaft, auxiliary shaft, central ventilation shaft, western ventilation shaft, and eastern ventilation shaft. The mine is gas-free, poses no risk of coal dust explosions, and is not prone to rock bursts. The mine field is developed using a panel-based system, with reverse mining procedures. The mining method is long-pillar mining along the strike. The roof management method was complete collapse. Development workings were drilled and blasted using EBGP electric drills for blasthole drilling. Loading of the broken rock was accomplished using 1PPN-5 rock loading machines. The production faces were equipped with KD-90 mechanized roof supports with a 1K-101 shearer and 2KD-80 mechanized roof supports with a 1K-101 shearer and SP-202 scraper conveyors.
