Jang Keun Suk was born in Danyang County, Chungcheongbuk Province, South Korea. He was born on the 4th day of the 8th month of the Lunar Calendar in 1987 (the year of the rabbit), making his Gregorian calendar birth date 26 September 1987. He is an only child. At the age of five, he was discovered by a talent agent who advised his parents to allow him to try modeling. He began as a catalog model and through the years has represented various companies: Coca-Cola, Daewoo, Kellogg's, Samsung YEPP, and SK Telecom to name but a few.
