RISE / Joseph Arthur
The new single RISE Is out today! It’s inspired by the life of Neil Peart And written on the day he died I was a massive RUSH fan from adolescence on. My first ever acid trip at the tender age of 15 was revolving around the album by them called ‘Hemispheres’ And I remember listening through the walls of our bedrooms to my sister listening to RUSH and being blown away by the lyrics. Neil wrote those. (She also turned me onto Dylan and many others. So thank you sis!) Us Rush fanatics feel a certain closeness To the members And so the weight of Neil passing hit me hard. His life (outside of RUSH) was laden with tragedy Tragedies that he overcame, stories of him dealing with the death of those closest to him by riding his motorcycle cross country were legion For whatever reason his death led me to write a song inspired by the spirit of celebration of a life lived to the full, pursuing inspiration into every corner Finding a light in every darkness The video clip Directed by myself and Amelie Chopinet (and filmed over the course of the last European tour in Paris Took its inspiration from Wes Anderson Stanley Kubrick Spike Jones (To name a few) And I thank Amelie for her tireless work ethic and creative genius. Rumors are already flying around that each vinyl record face is painted on a different RUSH album And each face represents a different phase of their prog rock evolution and journey I can neither confirm nor deny this ballyhoo! But check out the video and share it with a neighbor Or anyone out there who needs a boost on the road to a dream. And RISE! Song Produced by Joseph Arthur and Lance Davis Mixed by Lance Davis Lyrics Always try to look around for a smile Cause maybe it'll come around Maybe it'll come around Maybe it'll come around We can see over And we can see past We can see forever But can we make it last We can go under But we can be brave Holding our hearts up Trying to find someone to save Rise when you hear the cries And then you make the scene Run through the hemispheres And learn to live your dream We can bare witness We can be strong Past this isolation And nowhere else to belong We can rejoice The fears that we had As we’re much more open To The ways that we’ve been had Rise when you hear the cries And then you make the scene Run through the hemispheres And learn to live your dream Always try to look around for a smile Cause maybe it'll come around Maybe it'll come around Maybe it'll come around No one wants anger No one wants pain The way that we hide Is the way we remain I know you love me I love you too But sometimes love Can make a fool out of you Rise when you hear the cries And then you make the scene Run through the hemispheres And learn to live your dream For more information Visit josepharthur.com
