Chandrashekhar Prabhu- Conversation with Talmakiwadi

Talmakiwadi is one of the oldest cooperative housing societies in South Mumbai which houses the Saraswat Community. The first cooperative housing society in Mumbai was the Saraswat cooperative housing society in Gamdevi in South Mumbai and one of the founders of this society was Rao Bahadur Talmaki, who was also responsible for founding Talmakiwadi, which was named after him. The society has members and tenants as well. There is also one plot in the middle of Talmakiwadi which is owned by the KSA, an association of members from the same community. Most members and tenants want the cultural ethos of Talmakiwadi to remain intact while the changes take shape in the redevelopment processes. Since the property is prime, most builders have been keen to undertake redevelopment. The members however are divided amongst those who want self redevelopment and others who do not want to take the responsibility and leave it to the market forces. Initially the society resolved for self redevelopment but later wanted to keep themselves open to other options as well. Eminent doctor and neurosurgeon Dr Uday Andar has his home in this wadi and he invited Chandrashekhar Prabhu to have a conversation with members on self redevelopment. The meeting and discussion continued for over 3 hours, but since our viewers prefer shorter video inputs, we have edited the entire recording and are publishing the edited recording which is shorter in duration, retaining relevant portions which would be helpful to all, especially those who want to understand the self redevelopment processes.
