How does the new Chinese Great Wall Poer (GWM Poer) compare? Price-wise, the Toyota Hilux is way off – well over 3 million rubles. We're paying for the assurance of indestructibility. The Chinese version won't offer that assurance, so it's cheaper. The top-of-the-line Great Wall Poer is under 2.5 million rubles. A difference of millions of rubles. It must be said, the Chinese are surprising; they're the only ones who've dared to bring two pickup models to Russia: the Wingle 7 and the Poer. The former is more minimalist, with a long bed and manual transmission. It's a workhorse for under 2 million rubles. But the new Great Wall Poer is positioned as a premium pickup, although that very definition sounds strange. But it's visually striking, with a huge chrome grille, its own logo on the hood, running turn signals, and LED headlights. We chose a similar competitor – the recently updated Toyota Hilux. It's also a top performer. However, the Chinese model is noticeably inferior in terms of engine power. 150 hp and 400 Nm have been removed from the modest 2-liter diesel engine. That's not bad, but the Japanese pickup has a 2.8-liter engine producing 200 hp and 500 Nm. So comparing the competitors in terms of performance is pointless. The Toyota accelerates noticeably more confidently, and even 150 km/h is not its limit. The power advantage will be especially useful for those planning to carry large loads and tow heavy trailers. The Toyota Hilux has a very impressive torque reserve. The Great Wall Powertrain tries to compensate for its lack of power with an 8-speed ZF automatic. It is especially good off-road.
