Not Bulletproof After All | Purbeck Gravel Ride & Big Hills | Knee Pain On A Cycle Ride

The morning after a hard ride the day before... and a reminder that we're not bulletproof. This was a Purbeck gravel ride with everything that makes this area special - ferry crossings, steep farm climbs, ridge-top views over Swanage and Poole Harbour, and just enough challenge to keep things honest. I went into this one with slightly tired legs and a complaining knee from the day before. The plan (according to ChatGPT anyway...) was to take it easy. Reality, as always, had other ideas. A few highlights from the ride: Ferry crossing and coastal start Steep off-road climbs (including the farmyard test) Mud, sand and some “just keep pedalling” moments Café stop reset (tea and a roll) Ridge views across Swanage, Sandbanks and beyond A reminder that pacing matters when fatigue is already in the system The knee? Better once moving… stiff when stopping… manageable, but a good reminder to respect recovery. Julie was flying today - much more positive, enjoying the ride, and proving again that time in the saddle makes the difference. Sometimes it’s not about performance.
