1927 HITS ARCHIVE: Rhapsody In Blue - Paul Whiteman with George Gershwin, piano

Multiple sources cite Victor’s musical director Nat Shilkret as the actual conductor of this particular session. It was the second two-sided 12-inch Victor recording and release of the Whiteman Orchestra’s treatment of the famed Gershwin composition, arranged by Ferde Grofe and featuring the composer himself at the keyboard. The historic earlier version had been (acoustically) recorded June 10, 1924, and was issued on blue-label Victor #55225.
