Masjid Al-Nur, Mesmerising Mosque Of Bangalore Cantonment The Muslim orphanage in Bangalore was established in 1892. Initially, it operated in a building rented from Arunachalam Mudliar. In 1911, a plot of land was purchased on Dickenson Road for Rs 12000/-. This area was a vast, marshy expanse. Nearby were the residences of the Nepali royal family, the Sri Mahan Odukathur Mutt, and Sri Dhandayudapanu Temple. Additionally, the tranquil Ulsoor Lake was also nearby. There were no mosques in the area until 1940. In 1941, a small mosque was built by Hajani Fathima Bai, the wife of the late Haji Abdul Shakoor Sait. Haji Abdul Shakoor was the founder of the Cutchi Memon Union. He recognized the difficult situation faced by the Memon community and, with his vision, decided to establish the Cutchi Memon Union. He entrusted the management of the organization to the youth of the community. In 1933, the Cutchi Memon Union was officially founded in his property, the Shukoor Building. The Union was created to support and benefit the youth of the community. In 2001, the old mosque was purposefully demolished to make way for a stunning new mosque that embodies both modern design and community spirit. Funded by Razack Sattar of Prestige Groups, this impressive structure now stands firmly on the historic site, revitalizing the area and serving as a proud beacon for worship and community engagement. The minaret of Masjid al Nur is the third tallest in Bangalore.
