NEW BUS ROUTE VIA NEW LIM CHU KANG ROAD! 🇸🇬🚌 SMRT Bus Service 975B CCK → Opp Lim Chu Kang Lane 3
SMRT Bus Service 975B is a Short-Trip Service variant of the main Bus Service 975, designed to cater to specific high-demand segments along the main route particularly during peak periods, and for targeted commuter groups to Home Team Academy, Army Logistics Base, Keat Hong Camp, Sungei Tengah Lodge, and Sungei Gedong Camp. From 8 June 2025, Service 975B has been amended to ply an additional stretch of Old Choa Chu Kang Road, as well as the new realigned Lim Chu Kang Road, due to the closure of the now-old Lim Chu Kang Road, now-old Old Lim Chu Kang Road, and Lorong Rusuk. Lim Chu Kang Road traces its roots to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, originally built to serve the gambier, pepper, and rubber plantations that dotted Singapore’s north-western countryside. The area’s development was closely linked to pioneering figures like Neo Ao Tiew, who led land clearing efforts and established villages, schools, and health centres. Neo lobbied the colonial government to build a road connecting Lim Chu Kang to the rest of the island, eventually raising funds for an 8-kilometre road that opened in the early 1930s. By 1932, Lim Chu Kang Road provided vital access to the area, spurring the growth of local villages and commerce. During World War II, Lim Chu Kang Road played a crucial role in Singapore’s defense. On 8 February 1942, Japanese forces landed along the north-western coastline near Lim Chu Kang, catching Australian defenders by surprise and leading to fierce battles in the area. The rapid Japanese advance saw them coming ashore at Lim Chu Kang Road before sunrise on 10 February 1942. In the mid-1980s, the original curvy Lim Chu Kang Road was straightened and expanded into a new six-lane stretch, commonly referred to as the "Lim Chu Kang Runway". The older, winding segment became known as Old Lim Chu Kang Road. The new road was notable for its use as an emergency runway by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). On 16 April 1986, it was used for the first RSAF emergency runway exercise, with military aircraft taking off and landing on the road after the removal of street furniture and thorough cleaning. In recent years, Lim Chu Kang Road has undergone further changes due to urban development and military expansion, notably the Tengah Air Base project, which has led to the realignment and closure of parts of the road and the relocation of local farms. 🚆 More journeys: https://railtravelstation.com/ / railtravelstation Please like, share, and subscribe to support this channel.
