Mazda 323 Étude Review | Only 10 Units in Indonesia!!! The Mazda Étude is a three-door hatchback coupe that is the fifth generation of the Mazda familia, a car that was only ever marketed by Mazda in Japan, from 1987 to 1989. The Etude name was also later used in South Africa. The engine capacity of this car is 1600cc 1.6 L (1,597 cc) with the engine code B6D, DOHC I4, EFi, 110 PS (81 kW; 108 hp) at 6,500 rpm and produces power of 132 Nm at 4,500 rpm. This car was first introduced in January 1987 with a 1.6-liter twin cam engine in three different trim levels, from the lower Li through Si to the upper Gi spec. A lower-end 1.5-liter base version (1.5 Sa) was added in July 1988, where a number of brighter colors were also added to the gray and white color options. The Sa spec was midway between the Li and Si. The Étude looked similar to the 323/Familia, but was slightly longer and had a lower roofline, giving it a generally more suave appearance like the 323 tuxedo. It was marketed as a "personal coup" and received a very full complement of features including a sliding sunroof, two-tone paint, power steering and windows, etc. Coupled with a more comfort-oriented suspension, it was more comfortable than the sedan. This styling feature was called the "Terraceback" by Mazda. All of these features should help to differentiate it from its sibling. Although Mazda had made great efforts to differentiate the car from the regular Familia, the interior in particular felt less special. When the Familia was redesigned in March 1989, the Étude ended production, but sales of remaining stock continued for a while. When it finally disappeared without fanfare, because it was only made under 10,000 units. The replacement for this car was the Mazda Familia Astina 323F and the Autozam AZ-3 coupe known as the Mazda MX-3 in the export market.
