There are cases where underground water is contaminated by wastewater from country toilets, agricultural fields, farms, factories, or even entire landfills! This water usually stinks as badly as the air outside. A sign of anthropogenic water pollution is a combination of significantly elevated levels of PMO, iron, hardness, ammonium, and manganese, all accompanied by a low pH. When I see this, I immediately say, "Treatment without a guarantee." I think I need to make a separate video about this. I'll do it later. I live in the Ramensky district, near the town of Zheleznodorozhny. The most problematic place here is the Torbeevsky landfill, which has been growing steadily since 1994, following Moscow's lead. It now covers 70 hectares, and the first pile is taller than a 20-story building. And there will be several more piles like it. And then, in 2105, there'll likely be a "garbage avalanche," like in the movie "Ideocracy." But jokes aside! This landfill was built with every conceivable violation. The garbage is simply dumped on the ground, which is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!!! But the bigwigs don't care about the environment or the residents of the nearby villages of Rusavkino-Romanovo, Torbeyevo, Rusavkino-Popovshchino, Michurinets, Motyakovo, and Novy Milet. The bureaucrats are inactive, turning a blind eye to the problem. But I'm not an environmental activist; I don't want to prove anything to anyone or blame anyone. After all, garbage also needs to go somewhere, and if not to the landfill, then where? I'm just a local resident; I live in the village of Kopnino, and sometimes on foggy mornings I can smell that terrible STENCH from the landfill. However, that's not what we're talking about. It's about WATER. I work in water purification. And that's all I do. As a groundwater specialist, I can tell you this: With every additional meter of landfill elevation, the water column that permeates the dump increases, the wastewater pressure in the ground increases, and the contaminated water penetrates the groundwater, spreading underground for KILOMETERS, sinking to depths of 40-50-70, maybe even 100 meters! This is a non-renewable loss of water resources. This water will never be clean again, even if the landfill is closed and all the waste is transported elsewhere – the underground water will remain polluted forever.
