Japan - Methods of Dance (KD Instrumental Cover)

I have not done this for personal gain and will make no money from this video This is a fan-made instrumental cover of the incredible song by Japan called "Methods of Dance" that features on their landmark album called "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" that was released in 1980. "Methods of Dance" is probably my favourite song from this epic album. When I play the album, it is hard to believe that it was released in 1980. It really is a new wave classic. There are no weak songs on the album. This instrumental cover started simply with me trying to recreate the sounds from the intro of the original song. I had no intention to do anything more. I just wanted to understand the sounds they had used for the intro - Richard Barbieri, keyboard player for Japan, generated some incredible sounds on this album that sound truly unique and atmospheric. Anyway, I then left what I had done for a year or two, but then thought about it again recently and wondered whether I could recreate the instrumental backing track for this song. "Methods of Dance" is very different to a lot of new wave music from this period - it is a heavily nuanced song that has been very carefully put together and demonstrates all of the strengths of the band. In doing this instrumental cover version it became very apparent that Steve Jansen is an excellent and creative drummer. Often in music, my own included, it is easy to simply have a plodding drum pattern in the background. That is not the case with "Methods of Dance". Steve Jansen has laid down some very intricate and unusual drum patterns on this track which really bring the song alive in my view. You can listen to the original version using this link.    • Methods Of Dance (Remastered 2003)   Additonally, you can listen to a drum cover by Asa Young on this link below.    • Methods Of Dance (Japan・1980) / Asa Young ...   All members of Japan were very talented in my view and exploring their music has simply reaffirmed my thoughts. Thanks for the music Japan. RIP Mick Karn. I have not done this for personal gain and will make no money from this video. If the licence holder wants me to remove this video please let me know.
