VOICES: Christine Hill

Christine Hill's (born 1968) work incorporates aspects of performance, process, and conceptual art in equal measure to investigate relationships between the self, lifestyle packaging, and the desire for a better life. Reflecting this, critic Lucy Lippard notes: In an aesthetic echo of the American dream, Hill's work has gone from downscale (street vending, rummage sales) to the pseudo-corporate (board meetings, TV shows, fashion show). Of equal importance to the works themselves, Hill maintains a role as archivist for her own works, primarily in the form of the organizational venture Volksboutique, maintained as an umbrella for the many activities of her career. Hill was a 1998 MoMA PS1 Artist in Residence and received a Public Art Fund of New York Project Award in 1999. Solo exhibitions have been featured at Migros Museum, Zurich; Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland; Ronald Feldman Fine Art, New York; and Galerie EIGEN+ART, Berlin.
