$1 Repair Bowflex®/Nautilus® SelectTech® 552 & 1090 Broken Weight Tabs - The Pry & Bolt Methods

Do you have broken tabs on your 552 or 1090 weight plates? You could buy a new weight plate for $25-50+shipping or you can try to fix it yourself. In this video I talk about two DIY fixes for broken tabs. The first method involves prying up the underlying steel tab. That is only applicable to older SelectTech dumbbells. The second method is a little more involved, but it isn't so difficult that you shouldn't give it a try if the first method will not work for your specific weight plates. What's the worst that could happen? Ruin an already unusable weight? In this video I will go over both methods, including the one recently used by me and a fellow 552 owner, Brett, whose tabs had broken. We went back and forth in emails about alternative ways to repair a plate. Brett followed through and successfully made the modification to his weight plate. I eventually did the fix to some of mine as well, though I used a slightly different approach from Brett. You can see my version here:    • The New $1 Fix for Broken 552 & 1090 Bowfl...   I should also mention that this fix, when done correctly, would be compatible with my metal Disc Fix Kits (www.averagejoeinnovations.com). For the cost of a single bolt and your time, you can fix a broken tab. You'll need a hacksaw/ dremel/ grinder to remove the old tabs and level the surface, and to cut the bolt length flush with the opposite side of the plate (if all you have is a longer bolt). Then you'll need a drill and bit (and a way to measure and mark the center) to locate and drill the center hole. And finally a flange nut or shank/drill tap and some epoxy to fasten the bolt into the hole. Make sure a flat side of the hex bolt faces downward to function as the tab, not one of its points. Either way should work fine.
