Qatar announced the start of talks between Iran and the United States, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators, in Switzerland on Sunday. Qatar expressed hope that "these meetings will lead to a comprehensive and lasting agreement that addresses all aspects covered by the memorandum of understanding" signed by Tehran and Washington on Wednesday. Tehran warned that the agreement with the United States would be "in jeopardy" unless Washington fulfilled its commitments. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the Iranian delegation "will follow up and demand the implementation of the other party's obligations" under this understanding, according to the IRNA news agency. Meanwhile, the Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), quoted a source close to the negotiating team as saying that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened as long as the ceasefire in Lebanon continues to be violated, and until the exemptions allowing the sale of Iranian oil are issued.
