TLC - Creep Demo - 1993
In 1993, TLC fired Perri "Pebbles" Reid as their manager and hired Hiriam Hicks. They also went back into the studio with Dallas Austin, to begin recording their sophomore follow up to their February 1992 release Oooooh On The TLC Tip! ---Contrary to public belief (ie VH1 biopic timeline), Babyface (nor any of his material) was not a part of 1993 sessions for CrazySexyCool due to being occupied with his 1993 solo release (Cool In You) and 1993 relocation from Atlanta to LA.--- "Creep" was initially created by Dallas Austin as a demo earlier in 1993 and was kept on his computer for 6 months, until he presented it to T-Boz towards the end of 1993. This is the early/demo version of the song recorded in the late days of 1993, before later adding new vocals, more production, an adlib at the intro, and being mastered in the spring of 1994. In April 1994, Creep was chosen by LaFace and Arista executives as the lead single to the second TLC album, then due in the late summer of 1994. Scheduled for a Summer 1994 release, Creep's first music video was shot in Atlanta in June 1994. Trouble arose right before the shoot on June 9, 1994 and an assortment of complications ensued. Both the album and single were delayed a few months. A second video was later shot in Los Angeles by Lionel C. Martin in July 1994, ultimately it was rejected due to the gritty and dated image it gave off. The final and most well known version, was shot by Matthew Rolston in August 1994 and released the last week of October 1994. The song went to radio the same week of October 31, 1994 and CrazySexyCool was released on November 15, 1994. More than 1 year after it being recorded, Creep went to #1 in January 1995 and stated there through February 1995, the group's first #1 on the Hot 100.
