A Night in the Life - ARTT255 Project

This video was created as part of my ARTT255 class. I wanted to center the general idea of the video around my own experiences as a college student, in the form of a day-in-the-life video, with the twist being that it is a "night" in the life - since many college students are night owls. To accomplish this, I used my camera and a tripod to capture footage of myself going about completing various chores, such as doing laundry, studying, making food, etc. I wanted the overall vibe of the video to feel lighthearted and humorous, rather than dark and isolating, as I find that most people associate the night with the latter. In order to communicate this feeling, I chose an old Hindi song as the backing track due to its whimsical feel. Because I was shooting the video myself with no assistance, shooting alone took me several hours and multiple takes. If I were to do a project like this again, I would either have someone else record me or I would have an actor that I could record. Editing the video also took a long time, but because I had planned out much of the video beforehand, it was much easier than shooting. When it came to displaying this work, I wanted to use a location that enhances the video itself. For this reason, I chose a bedroom, since it is where most people watch YouTube videos, study, work, etc. and I felt it would give a comforting feeling to the video. Overall, I am fairly pleased with how this project turned out - it is the first time I have recorded and edited a video of this length and scale all by myself. I feel I learned a lot from the process, and I look forward to continuing to make similar videos.
