National Route 141 is a major highway that runs from Nirasaki City in Yamanashi Prefecture to Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture. It passes through a plateau at an altitude of 1,300 meters on the eastern foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains. During the Edo period, this route was known as the Saku-Koshu Kaido or Saku Okan, and served as a logistics artery. With the opening of the railway in the 1930s, the road fell into decline, but since 1970, it has regained its vitality with the advancement of motorization.
