Guayaquil 🇪🇨🚍🇵🇪 Tumbes Cifa Internacional CEBAF Centro Binacional Atencion en Frontera Ecuador Peru
From Guayaquil to Tumbes by bus: immigration, forced cinema, and a locked bathroom—a total border trip! On May 31, 2025, I decided to embark on an overland journey from Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Tumbes, Peru, with Cifa Internacional. A border crossing of approximately 250 kilometers that took me about six hours, not only between two countries, but also amid emotions and contrasts I will never forget. I left Guayaquil around 10:00 a.m., with the coastal sun beginning to shine brightly. The bus departed punctually, and from the first moment, the professionalism of the staff was evident. I was accompanied by other travelers, each with their own stories, and an air of anticipation hung in the air. The first part of the trip was peaceful. We passed through places like Durán, Santa Rosa, Arenillas, and Huaquillas, while the landscape slipped between palm trees, fields, and small towns along the way. However, there was one detail that I found uncomfortable: using the bathroom on the bus required asking the driver or attendant for the key, which, frankly, is a bit intimidating and even annoying when you have an emergency or simply want to use it discreetly. Added to this was another curious aspect: throughout the entire journey, the bus's entertainment system played movies at full volume, with no option for headphones. So, whether you liked it or not, you had to listen to the movie someone else had chosen for you. A forced cinematic experience, to put it humorously. Around noon, we arrived at the Binational Border Assistance Center. There was a very special moment: getting stamped for exit from Ecuador and entry into Peru. The whole process was quite quick and smooth. I remember being served by a very friendly Ecuadorian official with a serene smile and clear words, and then, on the Peruvian side, by an equally cordial and efficient official. Passport stamped, country changed. After crossing the border, you feel the change: another country, another energy. Finally, around 4 p.m., we arrived in Tumbes, a warm and bustling city, full of life and flavor. In short, the trip was very punctual, with good service from the Cifa staff. Although there were some inconvenient details like restricted bathroom access and mandatory movie theater sound, the experience was positive and recommended for those looking for a safe and affordable way to cross the land border between Ecuador and Peru. 🌎 A route that connects countries, and also stories. A border crossing that is, without a doubt, worth experiencing.
