Sere - Solo Piano in F Harmonic Minor

Sere is a solo piano piece in F harmonic minor, gentle and close, built as a single slow arch. It begins in a few quiet notes, gathers toward one luminous peak just past the middle, then thins almost to silence. The harmony leans into its longing and holds the ache open, resolving only at the very end, the way a held breath finally lets go. The castle on the hill is Reichsburg Cochem, above the Moselle in Germany, and its story is older and harder than it looks in the autumn light. Building began around the year 1000, and in 1151 King Conrad III took it by siege and raised it to an imperial castle, which is where its name comes from. For centuries it watched over the river and the wine valley below. Then it was destroyed. During the Nine Years War the troops of Louis XIV occupied it in 1688, and after taking the town they set it on fire, undermined it, and blew it up on the 19th of May 1689. What had stood for six hundred years was rubble in an afternoon, and it stayed a ruin on the hilltop for almost two centuries. In 1868 a Berlin businessman named Louis Ravené bought the ruins and rebuilt it, working the surviving Gothic stone into a new structure and raising the rest between 1868 and 1877. So the castle standing in this footage is not an untouched survivor. It was destroyed and brought back, and the seam between the old stone and the new is still there in the walls. That is why the two belong together. A quiet piece that dwindles toward silence, set against something that was broken and destroyed and insisted on becoming beautiful again, standing in the fading autumn light as if it had never fallen. solo piano, piano music, sad piano music, emotional piano music, reflective piano, cinematic piano, relaxing piano music, melancholy music, instrumental music, original music, composer, self produced, music producer, piano performance, solo pianist, video editing, post production, video editor, cochem castle, reichsburg cochem, cochem, moselle valley, german castle, medieval castle, autumn drone, F harmonic minor
