Aljustrel Alentejo, Portugal

Aljustrel is well known for its mines, industrial mining and geological heritage. Also known for its Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Castle. In the territory of Aljustrel, it is documented the passage of groups of hunter-gatherers of the Palaeolithic. However, the earliest archaeological records of the beginning of settlement go back to the end of the 3rd millennium BC and are located on the hill of Nossa Senhora do Castelo, a community that was already dedicated to the extraction and metallurgy of copper. And it was this ore and the richness of its agricultural soils that made the occupation of the territory from there uninterrupted until now.
