The Syrian conflict, which began with armed clashes in 2011, has escalated into a serious crisis. Approximately 4.5 million people have fled the country as refugees, and another 7.5 million have been forced to live as internally displaced persons. In Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria, the scars of the long civil war remain in schools, and a major earthquake in February 2023 caused further damage, including the collapse of school walls. There are as many as 8,000 schools in the country that require repair. World Vision Japan (WVJ), with grants and donations from the Japan Platform, is supporting the repair of dilapidated schools to create an environment where children can learn again. The negative legacy of the conflict extends beyond the delay in education. Many unexploded ordnance and landmines remain, endangering children's daily lives.
