Northumberland Nemsa & Blue Leicester showcase

The majority of North of England Mule Gimmer lambs are bred from the Swaledale Sheep, but there is a proportion of our society which is bred from the NE Blackface. Willie Woodman and his team at North Sheep’s Bradford farm, are a great example of the stratified system with the North of England Mule at its heart. The Hill farm at Great Chesters, situated on Hadrian’s wall is the home of the NE Blackie ewes, which are crossed with the Blue Faced Leicester to produce the North of England Mule. The Mule Ewes are farmed at Bradford farm to complete the circle in this closed flock. The attached video illustrates the landscape and the people who farm in the area where North Sheep is held this year. Many thanks to the Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Breeders' Association for sponsoring the project and thanks to Willie Weatherson for presenting the video. #sheepfarming #agriculturelife #NSANorthSheep #NorthSheep Filmed and produced by Herd's Media
